In Gear

The ‘In Gear’ concept was developed for Barnsley's participation in the 2017 Tour de Yorkshire. This cycle event has established a reputation for community decoration of the route and for large scale land art alongside the route to feature in the aerial TV coverage.  The artworks and decorations have become an integral part of this event as communities embrace the occasion and proudly celebrate their town or village to connect ‘race to place’.

In Gear used motifs and design style to connect cycling to the area’s industrial past through cogs and wheels. Commissioned artworks included a piece of land art over 100m long in a local farm, and vinyl banners for schools and 1 side of a local landmark - Wortley Church measuring 20m tall.

In 2018, In Gear produced the ‘Great Barnsley Bunt Off' - community workshops to create street dressing. With a Town Centre start for the race, local charity Creative Recovery’ were commissioned to produce urban land art on top of a multi-storey car park - an artwork measuring 90m x 80m,

The following 8 videos capture a variety of artworks from 2017 and 2018.
