Barnsley was included in the 2017 and 2018 editions of this prestigious UCI-approved 2.1 Europe Tour international cycle race.

In 2017, Barnsley hosted part of the finishing section on the final and 3rd day of the race. This included the final ‘King of the Mountain’ climb near the market town of Penistone. Over 2000 spectators saw the race winner emerge 4km from the finishing line in nearby Fox Valley in the Stocksbridge area of Sheffield.

In 2018, Barnsley Town Centre was the start point for Day 2 of the race, with team camps and race infrastructure along with a programme of town centre animations – music stage, fan zone, street entertainment and continental market for 5000 spectators.
